    How it works

    Every chemical in the reference dataset is assigned to one or more of 68 reactive groups (e.g. Acids, Strong Non-oxidizing; Cyanides, Inorganic; Ketones). The dataset documents 2,346 pairwise outcomes between those groups — Compatible, Caution, or Incompatible — each with hazard codes and, where known, the specific gas produced.

    Because 55% of chemicals carry more than one reactive group, this tool evaluates every group combination between two chemicals and reports the single worst outcome across all of them — never a guess from just one of a chemical's groups.

    A result of "no reaction predicted" (NR) means the dataset has no documented hazardous reaction between those groups — it is not a certification that co-storage is safe. Always confirm against each product's Safety Data Sheet.

    Worked example

    Sodium cyanide carries one group, Cyanides, Inorganic. Hydrochloric acid, solution carries two — Acids, Strong Non-oxidizing and Water and Aqueous Solutions. The tool checks both of hydrochloric acid's groups against cyanide's and keeps the worse result: Acids × Cyanides is Incompatible (gas HCN), which outranks the Caution result from Water × Cyanides — so the pair renders Incompatible, not Caution. This is the multi-group worst-case rule in action, on the two real dataset rows 1×11 and 11×100.

    Acetal (Ethers) and Acetone (Ketones) have no documented hazardous reaction between their groups (row 14×19: Compatible, NR). The tool renders this as "no reaction predicted" — never as "safe" — since concentration, container, and mixture effects are outside what any two-group prediction can capture.
